Ex Electrical, Fire & Gas Systems

MurphyEx supplies certified Ex electrical components and Fire & Gas equipment for newbuild, reactivation, and upgrade work on drillships, jack-ups, semi-submersibles, tender rigs, and offshore production facilities.

We support selection, documentation and inspection readiness so equipment arrives ready for receiving inspection and clean close-out. For replacement scopes we can review nameplates, confirm compatibility and support like-for-like or approved equivalent supply.

Overview

MurphyEx supplies certified Ex electrical components and Fire & Gas equipment, with selection checks aligned to the hazardous area zone classification, protection concept, and project requirements. Documentation is structured for receiving inspection and handover.

For replacement and upgrade work we review nameplate data, confirm certification and physical compatibility, and support like-for-like or project-approved equivalents where permitted by client and project rules.

How MX supports a controlled scope

1) Define and confirm

Hazardous area zone classification, gas group, temperature class, protection concept, material constraints and interfaces.

2) Select and verify

Certified equipment selection with certificate and marking checks aligned to the stated hazardous area zone classification and project requirements.

3) Package and deliver

Traceability, tagging, packing lists and documentation prepared for receiving inspection and close-out.

Typical scope of supply

Ex enclosures and junction boxes

Ex e, Ex d and Ex t enclosures and junction boxes in GRP, stainless steel and aluminium. Supplied with terminals, earth bars and certified accessories where required.

Cable glands and entries

Barrier and non-barrier cable glands for armoured and unarmoured cables, EMC glands, reducers, adaptors, stopping plugs and sealing systems. Selected to suit cable construction and protection concept.

Termination and marshalling

Termination hardware, marshalling terminals, earthing and bonding components, and installation materials. Identification and interfaces can be configured to suit the receiving system.

Fire, Gas and Emergency Shutdown systems

Fixed gas and flame detection, associated field devices, shutdown devices and interfaces to Fire & Gas and ESD systems. Scope can include detectors, solenoids, junction boxes and terminations for replacement work.

Ex LED luminaires and control gear

Hazardous area LED floodlights, linear luminaires, high-bay and wellglass luminaires, emergency lighting, drivers and control gear. Supply can be configured for like-for-like replacement of legacy luminaires.

Documentation and traceability

Datasheets, certificates, tagging, packing lists and inspection documentation aligned to IECEx and ATEX requirements and project deliverables.

Lightning protection systems: covered on a dedicated page. Design, materials, installation and certification scope are addressed separately for air termination systems, down conductors, earthing networks and surge protection devices. View Lightning Protection Systems →

Examples

Representative components from recent supply. Final selection is always confirmed against hazardous area zone classification, protection concept, certification, environment constraints and client requirements.

Ex Fixed Gas Detector Ex fixed gas detector for offshore hazardous areas
Ex LED Luminaires Ex LED lighting luminaire for offshore hazardous areas
Junction Box Certified junction box for hazardous area electrical systems
Termination and Marshalling Cable termination and marshalling terminals in hazardous area installation
Cable Glands Cable glands for offshore hazardous area installation

Information for quotation

For fast technical review and quotation, include asset type, operating region, hazardous area classification (Zone 1 or Zone 2), gas group and temperature class where applicable, protection concept, material preference, cable construction, quantities and required delivery date.

For replacement scopes, photos of nameplates, Ex markings, existing part numbers and installation constraints help us confirm certification suitability and dimensional compatibility before supply.

Engineering and compliance review

Submit parts lists, MTOs, drawings or vendor lists where available. We can review certification and suitability against the stated hazardous area zone classification, identify like-for-like or project-approved equivalents where permitted, and support replacement and close-out planning.
